Driver dies after car crashes into utility pole

A 31-year-old youth from the Yakwila area died following a motor vehicle mishap on the Kurunegala - Puttalam main road near Kurunegala town yesterday.

Police state the victim travelled towards Kurunegala when he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road.

The car subsequently collided with an electricity pole and a telephone pole located nearby.

Although bystanders took measures to admit the critically injured driver to the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital, hospital sources confirmed he had already passed away.

Kurunegala Police conduct further investigations into the incident.
