A new housing construction project commenced for another 11 families in the Mahiyanganaya area displaced by Cyclone Dithwa. Plantation and Community Infrastructure Minister Samantha Vidyarathne presided over the foundation stone-laying ceremony held recently.
This housing project will proceed under several stages, with the first phase now underway. The ministry noted that 5 million rupees in financial provisions were allocated for the construction of each house under this project.
Accordingly, the presentation of cheques worth 2 million rupees to the relevant beneficiaries took place on the same day as part of the initial phase.
