A 35-year-old mother of one died after being struck with an iron rod by her father following a dispute over picking a jackfruit in the Kalutara North area. The victim, identified as Dilini Madushika, resided in Bosiripura, Kalutara North.
Police investigations revealed that the daughter and father lived in adjacent houses but the victim moved away temporarily due to an ongoing family dispute. On the morning of May 4, a neighbour informed the daughter via telephone that her father picked a jackfruit from a tree on her property, prompting her to arrive at the location on a motorcycle to question him.
The situation escalated into an argument, during which the father attacked her with an iron rod. Residents assisted in admitted the critically injured woman to the intensive care unit of the Kalutara Nagoda Teaching Hospital, where she later passed away.
Officers from the Kalutara North Police arrested the father and recovered the iron rod used in the commission of the crime.
