A police constable attached to the Peliyagoda Headquarters Police will remain in remand custody until the 12th for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 200,000.
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption produced the suspect before the Colombo Chief Magistrate yesterday (04) following his arrest.
The commission informed the court that a complaint alleged the officer and another individual demanded the sum to release a person taken into custody on April 19 for possession of 'ICE'.
While this constable was arrested during a sting operation, the second officer reportedly fled the scene.
Charges filed against the suspect include aiding and abetting the solicitation and acceptance of a bribe.
After considering the facts, the magistrate ordered the suspect, identified as Dinusha Shehan Bandara Kiwuldeniya, to be held in custody until the next court date.
