The bribery case against former Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody will be called for trial on June 17, following an order by the Colombo High Court.
High Court Judge Rashantha Godawela announced the commencement date today (6) after concluding the pre-trial conference.
The judge also directed that a summons be issued for two prosecution witnesses to appear in court on that date.
The Bribery Commission filed these charges against the former minister regarding his conduct while serving as the Procurement and Import Manager of the Ceylon Fertiliser Company in 2016.
He allegedly caused a loss of Rs. 8,859,708 to the state by favoring a private company during the procurement process for carpeting the Hunupitiya warehouse complex.
