A significant number of families receiving aid under the 'Aswasuma' welfare programme received their April payments twice, according to the 'Free Lawyers' organization. The group further states that several other recipients received amounts exceeding the standard bonus allocated by the government.
Nearly Rs. 500 million in excess funds reached beneficiaries due to this error, as reported in an official statement.
This administrative oversight affected approximately 1,733,000 families scheduled to receive welfare support during April.
The organisation requested the Speaker of Parliament to initiate an investigation into the matter, citing Parliament's authority over public finance under Article 148 of the Constitution.
