The Computer Investigation Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department informed Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena today (6) that an investigation commenced regarding $ 600,000 paid by the Postal Department to US Post which that department did not receive.
The Magistrate ordered the Computer Emergency Readiness Team to conduct an on-site inspection regarding the incident.
This order followed a request made by the Criminal Investigation Department.
The CID informed the court the funds were credited on two occasions and statements were recorded from the Deputy Postmaster General and officers who handled relevant emails, though no suspect is identified yet.
Investigations proceed under the Computer Crime Act, the Offences Against Public Property Act, and the Penal Code of Sri Lanka.
The Criminal Investigation Department further informed the court that the probe was initiated following a complaint made by the Postmaster General.
