Sri Lanka to target high-quality tourism investments

Sri Lanka focuses on attracting premium tourism investments and internationally recognised hotel brands to strengthen the hospitality sector and enhance long-term industry value.

Deputy Tourism Minister Ruwan Ranasinghe told an industry event in Colombo on Friday that the sector recorded significant progress through partnerships with private investors and stakeholders over the past year. He noted that the government encourages new investment proposals and international collaborations to enrich the tourism portfolio and improve accommodation quality.

The strategy prioritises improving quality rather than simply increasing the number of hotel rooms. Ruwan Ranasinghe explained that the long-term plan centres on sustainable and environmentally conscious development, with special attention given to landscape planning, nature corridors, and green concepts.

These initiatives aim to create a distinctive model of Sri Lankan hospitality that balances growth with environmental protection. Ruwan Ranasinghe expressed confidence that such measures will attract high-end projects and global brands while increasing competitiveness. He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining an investor-friendly environment for future developments.
