The Colombo Magistrate's Court ordered the case filed against Shashi Weerawansa, wife of former Minister Wimal Weerawansa, over the alleged acquisition of an irregular diplomatic passport using forged documents, to be called on the 25th of this month.
Shashi Weerawansa, currently out on bail, appeared before the court when the case was taken up.
Representing the defendant, lawyer Buddhika Chandrasekara informed the court of the need to examine the computer system related to computer-generated documents before leading evidence.
The lawyer noted that the trial cannot proceed as such access, permitted under the Evidence Ordinance, remains ungranted.
Consequently, the Magistrate directed the Criminal Investigation Department to notify their stance on the next date regarding whether the defence will be allowed to examine the computer system used to generate the documents intended as evidence.
The Colombo Magistrate's Court subsequently ordered the case to be recalled on the 25th of this month.
