The United National Party (UNP) states that their party was baffled to see President Anura Kumara Dissanayake personally extending congratulations to the recently elected Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, C. Joseph Vijay.
The party points out that, as a head of state, tradition dictates such congratulatory messages should be reserved for other heads of state, rather than foreign provincial or state leaders.
The UNP further questions why President Dissanayake did not extend similar congratulatory messages to the newly elected Chief Minister of West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, or the Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma.
