A minor flood risk exists in the catchment areas of the Attanagalu Oya basin following heavy rainfall. The Department of Irrigation issued an "Amber" warning at 7:45 pm yesterday (14), which remains valid for the next 24 hours until 8:00 pm today (15).
Data analysis from water gauges maintained by the Department of Irrigation indicates that low-lying areas of the Attanagalu Oya and Uruwal Oya valleys are at risk. The warning covers the Divisional Secretariat divisions of Divulapitiya, Meerigama, Attanagalla, Mahara, Gampaha, Minuwangoda, Ja-Ela, Katana, and Wattala.
The Director of Irrigation advises residents in these areas and drivers travelling through them to remain highly vigilant. Several roads running through these low-lying areas face a risk of inundation at certain locations.
