The Colombo Grand Mosque announces that the Hajj festival, one of the main religious festivals of Islamic devotees in this country, scheduled for celebration on May 28. According to the reports of the Hilal sub-committees, the new moon for the month of Dhul Hijjah not sighted in any part of the island today, May 17, the Colombo Grand Mosque states.
Accordingly, the current month completes with 30 days, and the beginning of the new month, or the first day of the month of Dhul Hijjah, considered as May 19. As the Hajj festival falls on the 10th day of the month of Dhul Hijjah according to the Islamic calendar, the Colombo Grand Mosque announced that this year's Hajj festival consequently falls on May 28.
