Chinese national arrested with illicit cigarettes

A foreign national was arrested near Nimalka Gardens in Kollupitiya yesterday whilst in possession of a stock of foreign cigarettes smuggled into the country.

Officers from the Colombo South Division Criminal Investigation Bureau conducted the raid based on a tip-off and seized 540 illegally smuggled cigarettes from the suspect's possession.

The arrested suspect is a thirty-five-year-old Chinese national.

The suspect and the stock of cigarettes were handed over to the Kollupitiya Police Station for further legal action, and the Kollupitiya Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
