Naula war heroes seek monument to honour fallen soldiers

The Naula War Heroes Forum made a request from the president during a special march yesterday (18), demanding the construction of a monument in the Naula area for war heroes who sacrificed their lives and became disabled for the motherland.

The letter containing the special request addressed to the president was handed over to the vice chairman of the Naula Pradeshiya Sabha, T.M.N.G. Dasanayake, at the Pradeshiya Sabha premises.

Nearly 500 war heroes from the Naula area alone actively contributed to the war and lost their lives or limbs, according to the forum.

There is no monument in the area to pay tribute to them, they said.

War hero families in the area emphasised that this monument is essential to commemorate their relatives by at least placing a floral tribute during the annual war hero commemorations.

Disabled war heroes from the Naula area, as well as parents and relatives of war heroes killed in the war, participated in the event.

The march started near the main Buddha shrine located in Naula town and proceeded to the Naula Nathissa Raja Maha Viharaya, according to our correspondent.
