As the southwest monsoon gradually establishes across the island, adverse weather conditions have affected 27,419 people belonging to 6,907 families in six districts as of 6.00 p.m. today (23), according to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC).
The latest report issued by the DMC states that one death has also been reported due to the disaster situation, where a 64-year-old man was swept away by floodwaters in the Divulapitiya area of Gampaha District.
Meanwhile, 17 safe shelters have been set up for affected people, currently accommodating 1,192 individuals from 351 families.
The report further notes that two houses have been completely destroyed, while 807 houses have been partially damaged due to the adverse weather conditions.
