Hatton District Judge and Magistrate Peter Paul ordered today (24) to remand a suspect until June 03, who is accused of brutally murdering an elderly couple in Hatton, Dikoya, and robbing 18 sovereigns of gold jewelry worn by the woman.
The individual ordered to be remanded is Selliah Manoj (47), a father of one and a resident of the Demodara area in Hali-Ela.
The suspect had fled after committing the double murder on the 21st and was hiding in the Petroso Estate, Bogawantalawa. He was arrested yesterday (23) during a joint operation conducted by officers from the Bogawantalawa and Hatton police stations.
Hatton Police officers have managed to recover the iron rod and sharp weapon used by the suspect to commit the murders, as well as the entire stock of 18 sovereigns of gold jewelry snatched from the deceased woman.
The Hatton Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
