Ridiyagama Butterfly Park reopens on June 3

The Department of National Zoological Gardens is planning to reopen the renovated butterfly park at the Hambantota Ridiyagama Safari Park to the public from June 3.

The reopening falls in line with World Environment Day, the department announced.

Sri Lanka is home to 238 species of butterflies, of which 31 are endemic to the country.

Speaking at a media briefing held yesterday, Director General of the Department of National Zoological Gardens, Dr. Chandana Rajapaksa, said that around 60 butterfly species live in and around the butterfly park at the Hambantota Safari Park.
