A total of 61 prisoners have been granted a presidential pardon in view of Vesak Poya Day, which falls tomorrow (30).
Commissioner of Prisons and spokesperson A.C. Gajanayake said in a statement that the special pardon was granted under the powers vested in the President by Article 34 of the Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
The statement further noted that 33 of the prisoners who received the pardon are scheduled to be released from prison tomorrow.
