To mark the sacred birth, enlightenment, and the Parinibbana or the passing away, of Lord Buddha, “Hiru Shakya Sinha Mangalya” organised with devotion by the Hiru Media Network, including Hiru TV and Hiru FM, commenced early this morning (30) at the historic Mahiyangana Raja Maha Viharaya premises.
The event was held, giving priority to a range of meritorious religious activities, including offerings and practices.
Incense offerings, lotus flower offerings, and determination offerings were conducted for the historic Mahiyangana Stupa, along with a merit-making ceremony to illuminate the stupa with over 100,000 six-coloured electric bulbs.
This was held a short while ago under the patronage of Hiru Media Network Chairman Reno Silva.
Hiru Shakya Sinha Mangalya commenced at the historic Mahiyangana Raja Maha Viharaya sacred site, where Lord Buddha’s first visit to Sri Lanka took place, with the participation of thousands of devotees.
Hiru Shakya Sinha Mangalya is a noble concept initiated by the Chairman of Hiru Media Network, Rayynor Silva.
Following this, Venerable Mandaramnuwara Yasassi Thera of the Mahiyangana Raja Maha Viharaya administered the observance of the Eight Precepts to the devotees gathered at the sacred site.
Afterwards, the “Ama Sisila Dhamma Discussion” commenced under the patronage of Chief Incumbent of the Mahiyangana Raja Maha Viharaya, Venerable Urulewatte Dhammarakkhitha Thera.
A series of meritorious activities aimed at benefiting both this world and the next were conducted at the historic Mahiyangana Raja Maha Viharaya.
Amidst the blessings of the devotees present, a special Adhisthana Pooja was held for the continuation and longevity of the Buddha Sasana.
The illumination of the historic Mahiyangana Stupa with six-coloured electric bulbs was carried out by Hiru Media Network Chairman Rayynor Silva.
