Man arrested with illegal liquor and beer

A man selling arrack and beer without a license inside a restaurant in the Polwatte area in Katunayake was arrested on Vesak Poya day, which was yesterday (30), by a team of officers from the Walana Central Anti-Corruption Striking Unit, along with 43 bottles of arrack and 32 beer cans.

A 48-year-old resident of the Raddolugama area was arrested in this manner.

The raid was implemented according to intelligence information received by the Walana Anti-Corruption Unit that the suspect was secretly selling liquor and beer at higher prices inside this restaurant without a legal license while concealing them in bulk.

The suspect and the stock of liquor arrested by the officers of the Walana Central Anti-Corruption Striking Unit, who conducted the raid, were handed over to the Katunayake Police Station for further legal proceedings.

The Katunayake Police conduct further investigations into the incident.
