Man killed in tipper truck-three-wheeler collision

A 20-year-old man travelling in a three-wheeler has died following a head-on collision between a three-wheeler and a tipper truck in the Punanai area on the Polonnaruwa–Batticaloa road, police said.

The accident occurred last night (01), when a three-wheeler travelling towards Batticaloa collided head-on with an oncoming tipper truck.

The driver of the three-wheeler, a female passenger seated in the rear, and two other individuals sustained serious injuries and were admitted to hospitals in Welikanda and Valaichchenai by local residents.

The victim, who was admitted to Welikanda Hospital, later died while receiving treatment.

He has been identified as a 20-year-old resident of the Valaichchenai area.

Following the impact, the tipper truck also veered off the road and overturned. The driver of the truck is also receiving treatment at Welikanda Hospital.

Police in Valaichchenai are conducting further investigations into the incident.
