Two pedestrians have died after being seriously injured in a double-vehicle accident in the Kanagarayankulam area on the A-9 road, police said.
The accident occurred last night (02) when a car travelling from Kanagarayankulam towards Puliyankulam collided with two pedestrians walking along the roadside in the same direction.
Both pedestrians sustained critical injuries and later died after being admitted to Vavuniya Hospital.
The deceased are two residents of Kanagarayankulam and Oddusuddan, aged 27 and 40.
Police said that a van travelling behind the car at the time of the incident was unable to control its speed and collided with the car from behind.
Following the accident, the van driver fled the scene but was later arrested during a police operation.
The driver of the car involved in the accident has also been taken into custody, while Kanagarayankulam Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
