A Police Constable attached to the Wolfendhal Street Police Station has been arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division in possession of a stock of narcotics valued at over Rs. 5 million.
According to reports, the arrested constable had been engaged in court duties at the Wolfendhal Street Police Station.
The arrest was made following a tip-off received by the Director of the Colombo Crimes Division through the Western Province Intelligence Unit. Acting on the intelligence, police raided a rented room where the suspect had been staying and recovered the narcotics.
During the search, police seized 40,710 milligrams of crystal methamphetamine (‘Ice’), 225 grams of hashish, 300 narcotic pills, 1,950 milligrams of heroin, and 120 illegal cigarettes that had been hidden in a small cupboard, under a pillow, and in various other locations inside the room.
The suspect is a 28-year-old resident of Kahatagasdigiliya, Anuradhapura.
Further investigations are being carried out by officers of the Colombo Crimes Division.
