Another individual inside the cab that crashed into a Meegoda dansala, taking the lives of six people, was arrested yesterday afternoon (06). The suspect was arrested while fleeing and hiding. Several police teams conducted investigations to find this suspect, identified as Don Sarath Hettige, a resident of the Palanwatta area in Pannipitiya.
The owner of the cab and another individual surrendered to the Meegoda Police this morning.
A cab driven by an inebriated driver crashed into a dansala organised near the Meegoda junction for the Vesak Poya day, stripping six individuals of their lives on the 31st. Following the arrest of the driver who caused the fatal crash, he was remanded, while the owner inside the cab and two other individuals fled the scene.
However, investigations commenced through several police teams to arrest them. Yesterday, the police released photographs of the suspects to the media and requested public assistance to bring them to justice.
Against this backdrop, the owner of the crashed cab and another suspect surrendered to the Meegoda Police through a lawyer this morning. The individuals who surrendered to the police are the cab owner identified as Attanayake Don Wasantha, a resident of Kudamaduwa, Siddhamulla, Piliyandala, and a person travelling in the cab at the time identified as Sellamuttu Sellakumar, a resident of Palanwatta, Pannipitiya.
