A bus operating from Colombo to Monaragala was taken into custody in front of the Thanamalwila Police Station following information received by the police that kerosene was pumped into its fuel tank from a filling station in the Buttala area.
Upon inspection of the fuel tank, officials confirmed that kerosene was used instead of diesel, leading the police to transfer the passengers to another bus and place the vehicle under police custody to produce it before the Wellawaya Magistrate’s Court.
The 48-year-old driver and the 35-year-old conductor reside in the Monaragala area, and the Thanamalwila Police Station is conducting further investigations after recording statements from them.
