Public trust outlasts temporary political power

Public trust in state institutions remains permanent despite the temporary nature of political power. Former Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Sabry stated this in a special note shared on his official social media account.

The popularity of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa gradually declined following the arrest of General Sarath Fonseka and the impeachment of then Chief Justice Dr Shirani Bandaranayake. Sabry noted this came from his personal observations. He stressed that treating individuals inhumanely based on concocted charges after they contributed uniquely to defeating terrorism constitutes a great sin with severe long-term consequences. History teaches valuable lessons that wise nations must learn.

The Sri Lankan Police face direct accusations of issuing misleading statements to conceal the true detention status of former State Intelligence Service chief Suresh Sallay. Mohamed Ali Sabry raised this sharp criticism regarding Sallay's treatment under the Criminal Investigation Department's custody. He pointed out that Suresh Sallay remains held under executive detention orders issued by the President as the Minister of Defence, rather than being in judicial custody.
