A person who went to bathe in the Kumbukkan Oya within the Medagama Police Division drowned and died yesterday (07), according to Medagama Police.
The deceased has been identified as a 37-year-old young man residing in the Rattanadeniya area.
Preliminary police investigations have revealed that the deceased had been bathing in the Kumbukkan Oya along with his mother and several other relatives.
He is said to have unexpectedly drowned while in the water. Immediately after the incident, local residents rushed to rescue him and admitted him to Medagama Hospital. However, police stated that he had already died by the time he was admitted.
The body of the deceased is currently placed in the mortuary of Medagama Hospital, and Medagama Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
