Tamim Iqbal to lead BCB for four-year term

Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has been elected as the new president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for a four-year term, following board elections held in Dhaka on Sunday.

Tamim, who had been heading the BCB’s ad-hoc committee since April, was elected unopposed after securing a place on the newly formed board of directors. He was later confirmed as president at the board’s inaugural meeting after the election.

The vote concluded the formation of a 25-member board that will manage Bangladesh cricket over the next four years. Fahim Sinha was elected vice-president after topping the vote count among candidates contesting the role.

After his appointment, Tamim said he aimed to rebuild trust in Bangladesh cricket and strengthen transparency within the governing structure. He also expressed optimism that the board could move past recent disputes and concentrate on long-term development of the sport.

The 37-year-old former opener is among Bangladesh’s most iconic cricketers and retired from international cricket as the country’s leading run-scorer in One-Day Internationals.
