A new bus service from Delikclair Estate to Pathana Junction was launched yesterday (08), providing a solution to a long-standing transportation issue faced for years by residents of the estate and several nearby plantation communities.
More than 3,000 residents living in the estate had previously been forced to travel nearly five kilometres on foot or rely on costly three-wheelers for their daily transportation needs.
Due to the lack of proper transport facilities, schoolchildren had faced significant hardships, while transporting patients to hospitals during medical emergencies had also been a major challenge for residents.
In response to these difficulties, steps were taken to launch the new bus service. The government reportedly provided special assistance during the process of obtaining the necessary permits for the bus, with special intervention and support from Nuwara Eliya District Development Committee Chairman Manjula Suraweera Arachchi.
Member of Parliament Krishnan Kalaichelvi, the Vice Chairman of the Kotagala Pradeshiya Sabha, the Chairman of the Talawakelle Urban Council, party representatives, and a large number of local residents attended the inauguration ceremony.
With the launch of the bus service, residents in the area are now expected to carry out their daily travel more conveniently and at a lower cost.
