The token strike planned by the Railway Guards’ Union has been withdrawn following discussions held between union representatives and the private secretary to the Deputy Minister of Transport.
The union had initially announced a 24-hour token strike from midnight yesterday to midnight today, citing concerns that railway cranes were being operated in breach of health and safety regulations.
Following the talks, authorities agreed to initiate an investigation into the allegations and issue a decision within 48 hours.
As a result, passenger train services will continue to operate as normal today.
However, the union stated that while it has called off the broader strike action, it will still refrain from participating in freight train operations.
