Activities that promote the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam will not be allowed by the Government, Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananda Wijepala told Parliament yesterday.
However, space exists for people to commemorate relatives who died during the conflict, according to the Minister.
Ananda Wijepala stated that an arrest took place regarding the upload of a song to Facebook which the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam originally performed in Kilinochchi.
He further noted that the Inspector General of Police held discussions with the Attorney General yesterday afternoon concerning the matter, and appropriate action should follow.
The Government repeatedly stated in the House that no room exists for activities promoting the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, though an opportunity remains for people to remember deceased relatives, the Minister said.
He added that the Government plans to take suitable steps following consultations between the Police and the Attorney General’s Department on the issue.
