The Central Criminal Investigation Department has informed Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama that an investigation has been launched into written content circulating on social media that allegedly damages the reputation of the Sri Lanka Police and incites hatred and public disapproval toward the police.
Officials told court that the investigation was initiated following a complaint lodged by Police Headquarters.
Providing further details, investigators stated that written posts circulating on social media are being shared in a manner that allegedly harms the reputation of the Sri Lanka Police and creates hostility and negative sentiment among the public toward the police institution.
After considering the submissions, the Magistrate ordered that an investigation be conducted and a report be submitted to court.
