The United National Party working committee meeting took place yesterday afternoon at the political office on Flower Road in Colombo, under the patronage of former President and party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The response of the United National Party to the current political situation and the restructuring of party organisational activities were discussed at length during the meeting, which saw the participation of a majority of working committee members.
Future political challenges cannot be faced individually, and steps must be taken to confront those challenges collectively by uniting with every force, party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe emphasised while addressing the gathering.
The working committee members were also informed about the manner in which future coordination work with other political parties, forces, and organisations would be conducted.
Meanwhile, United National Party General Secretary Attorney-at-Law Thalatha Atukorale announced to the working committee the measures taken by the party regarding local government representatives who acted contrary to party disciplinary rules.
Important strategic decisions were reached following a lengthy exchange of views on restructuring the United National Party organisations and maintaining a joint approach with other political parties, forces, and organisations, party Chairman Vajira Abeywardena stated.
