Showers or thundershowers will occur at times today in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya districts, the Department of Meteorology announced in a statement.
Fairly heavy showers above 75 millimetres may occur at some places in these areas. Several spells of showers may occur in the Hambantota and Anuradhapura districts. Furthermore, showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva province and the Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 1:00 p.m.
Strong winds of about 40 to 50 kilometres per hour can be expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, Northern and North-Central provinces, and in the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts. Fairly strong winds of about 30 to 40 kilometres per hour may occur at times in other areas.
The department requests the public to take necessary precautions to minimise damage caused by temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
