Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama today (12) ordered the release on bail of former Southern Province Chief Minister Shan Wijayalal de Silva and another suspect, who were accused of misusing state funds by distributing chairs to provincial council members outside the government procurement process ahead of a provincial council election.
Each suspect was ordered to be released on two surety bails of Rs. 5 million each, and an overseas travel ban was also imposed.
The Magistrate further ordered that the two suspects released on bail be prohibited from entering the Southern Provincial Development Authority and the Southern Provincial Council.
Meanwhile, the first suspect in the case was remanded until June 26.
