Complaint lodged against CIABOC DG

The Joint Opposition has submitted a written request to the Chairman of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), Justice W.M.N.P. Iddawala, calling for an immediate disciplinary inquiry against the Commission’s Director General Ranga Dissanayake.

The Opposition alleges that the current DG is following a biased policy in handling corruption complaints involving influential figures linked to the present government.

Signed by Opposition leaders including G.L. Peiris, the letter stresses that the law must be applied equally to all individuals without exception.

The Opposition has highlighted several controversial cases, including:

Alleged interference in Kapila Chandrasena case-
It claims that Chandrasena experienced severe mental stress after the Bribery Commission sought to revoke his bail, and that his sworn statement before his mysterious death revealed threats made against him. The Opposition also questions whether the DG exceeded his authority in questioning witnesses directly.

Allegations of ignoring complaints against powerful figures-
The letter cites delays in action over alleged corruption complaints against the Speaker and claims bias in handling cases involving Minister Jayakody. It also alleges inaction on corruption linked to substandard coal imports.

The Opposition further claims that multiple written complaints involving government-linked individuals have not been investigated and has urged the Commission to act impartially and provide them an opportunity for further discussion.
