Ex-minister S.M. Chandrasena indicted in CIABOC case

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has filed indictments before the Colombo High Court against former Minister S.M. Chandrasena, who had been accused in a corruption case.

The Bribery Commission has filed two indictments against the former minister.

According to the allegations, between January 1, 2014 and December 31, 2014, 36,000 kilograms of maize seeds imported at state expense to be distributed at a concessionary price to poor farmers in the Anuradhapura District were instead distributed among his political associates by exerting pressure on officials, including the Planning Director of the District Secretariat.

The charges state that this act amounts to corruption punishable under Section 70 of the Bribery Act, and that the Bribery Commission has accordingly filed charges against the former minister.
