Heavy rain expected across several provinces

The Department of Meteorology says that rain is expected in several parts of the country today as well.

Accordingly, fairly heavy rainfall of around 75 mm is likely in some areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya districts.

The department also warns that strong winds of 40–50 km/h may occur in the western slopes of the central hills, as well as in the Northern and North-Central provinces, and in the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.

Meanwhile, naval and fishing communities have been advised not to venture into sea areas off the coast stretching from Kankesanthurai to Mannar due to rough sea conditions.

In addition, Director of Hydrology and Disaster Management Engineer L.S. Sooriyabandara stated that water levels in the Kelani, Kalu, and Attanagalu Oya rivers have risen in certain locations due to ongoing rainy weather conditions.
