Three suspects linked to multiple property thefts, including the cutting and stealing of telephone cables from transmission towers and roadsides, have been arrested along with drugs and stolen items by the Ragama and Moratuwa Police, Police Headquarters said.
A team of officers attached to the Ragama Police arrested two suspects during a raid carried out yesterday evening (13) within the police division.
According to Police Headquarters, the suspects were involved in cutting and stealing cables from telephone transmission towers in the area.
At the time of arrest, police also recovered 17 grams and 700 milligrams of crystal methamphetamine (“Ice”) from their possession.
Investigations have revealed that the suspects had stolen cables worth approximately Rs. 922,750.
The suspects, aged 27 and 34, are residents of Rathupaswala and Kadawatha.
Based on information obtained during questioning, police also recovered a stock of stolen cable parts.
Ragama Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
Meanwhile, officers attached to the Moratuwa Police, who were engaged in crime prevention duties yesterday evening (13), also arrested a suspicious individual.
Subsequent investigations revealed that the suspect was allegedly involved in several thefts within the Moratuwa Police Division, including the theft of telephone cables worth around Rs. 180,000 and multiple housebreaking incidents.
The 51-year-old suspect, a resident of Rawatawatta, led police to a stolen television set and a stock of copper wire pieces during questioning.
Moratuwa Police are carrying out further investigations.
