The hearing commenced today at the Colombo High Court of a case filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) against former Energy Minister Kumar Jayakody over corruption allegations.
The case was heard before High Court Judge Rashantha Godawela.
During proceedings, the charges against the former minister were read out in open court, and he pleaded not guilty.
The CIABOC has filed charges alleging that in 2016, while serving as Procurement Manager at the Lanka Fertiliser Company, he facilitated procurement processes for carpeting a warehouse in a manner that unfairly benefited a private company, resulting in a loss of Rs. 8,859,708 to the government.
