A special investigation commenced into an incident that occurred on June 17 during a bomb disposal exercise at the Kalpitiya firing range belonging to the Sri Lanka Air Force.
The Air Force stated that the probe is being conducted under a special court of inquiry appointed by the Commander of the Air Force.
During the exercise, three individuals reportedly entered the secure perimeter of the firing range without prior permission or notification.
Seven Air Force personnel on duty and a Police Special Task Force officer questioned the three civilians regarding their identity.
It was established that one individual was a police officer and the other two were civilians accompanying him.
A heated situation arose between the two parties during this questioning.
The relevant area is designated a restricted secure zone for the general public whilst bomb disposal exercises take place.
