Duminda Dissanayake named as a suspect in the gold-plated firearm case again

Former Member of Parliament Duminda Dissanayake, who was previously released from the case regarding a gold-plated T-56 firearm found at the Havelock City luxury housing complex, was ordered to be renamed as a suspect yesterday (19). Mount Lavinia Magistrate Kanchana N. Silva issued this order based on instructions from the Attorney General.

Accordingly, the Magistrate ordered notices to be issued to the former Member of Parliament, directing him to appear before the court on a future date.

During investigations regarding the ownership of this gold-plated firearm, Duminda Dissanayake was ordered to be released from the case on July 29 last year. Predecessor Mount Lavinia Magistrate Chathurika de Silva stated at the time that there was no direct or circumstantial evidence against the former Member of Parliament.

However, sufficient evidence exists against him according to the Attorney General's instructions, which led to him being renamed as a suspect.

Former Member of Parliament Duminda Dissanayake was arrested and remanded on May 23 last year regarding the ownership of the gold-plated T-56 firearm found at the Havelock City luxury housing complex.

Later, the court considered a bail application filed on his behalf and took steps to release him under strict bail conditions.
