Train operations resume between Nanu Oya and Ambewela

Train operations on the Upcountry railway line between Nanu Oya and Ambewela, which were disrupted due to the Ditwah disaster situation, resumed from the Nanu Oya railway station at 9:00 am today (20).

This comes with the complete completion of the reconstruction work on the railway line that was affected by a landslide seven months ago due to the impact of Cyclone Ditwah.

Nuwara Eliya District Coordinating Committee Chairman Member of Parliament Manjula Suraweeraarachchi and the District Railway Executive Engineer, among others, attended the occasion.

Following multi-religious observances held at the Nanu Oya railway station, many local and foreign tourists arrived to travel towards Ella and Badulla on the Podi Menike train as operations commenced.

For seven months, train operations on this line took place only between Ambewela and Badulla.

The landslide site in the Parakumpura area between the Ambewela and Nanu Oya railway stations was reconstructed by the National Building Research Institute and a private company under the supervision of railway engineers.

Member of Parliament Manjula Suraweeraarachchi and Upper District Railway Executive Engineer Danushka stated that they expect to operate trains on the Upcountry railway line from Colombo to Badulla by the end of this year.
