The hospital administration of the National Cancer Hospital (Apeksha Hospital) in Maharagama has taken steps to limit the daily king coconut donation programme provided for in-patients, citing health, safety, and security concerns.
In a statement, the hospital said that the decision was made following discussions between the hospital director, specialist doctors, and the hospital committee.
It was noted that external individuals have been entering wards without any protective face masks or gloves.
The hospital also pointed out that taking photographs and videos of patients in a manner that violates their privacy and sharing them on social media has become a growing concern.
However, the hospital estimates that around 100 to 200 king coconuts are required daily, and donors are now permitted to supply only this quantity through the Food Assessment Officer to the hospital’s main kitchen.
