A 37-year-old resident of the Pothuhera area died after getting swept away whilst bathing in the sea at Kathaluwa, within the Habaraduwa police division.
The Habaraduwa Police stated that a group traveling from Kurunegala for an excursion faced this mishap while bathing at the Kathaluwa beach, yesterday afternoon.
Bystanders acted immediately to rescue the man as he got swept away, but he died while being rushed to the hospital.
The victim was a 37-year-old resident of Pothuhera.
Police officers initiated an investigation into the incident based on information received by the Habaraduwa police station.
The post-mortem examination on the body will take place, and the Habaraduwa police are conducting further investigations.
