A special discussion regarding short-term and long-term plans to suppress the rapidly spreading dengue menace due to the southwest monsoon season took place this afternoon (22) at the Presidential Secretariat, the Presidential Media Division states.
Health and Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa and Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake chaired the discussion.
Circulars regarding measures to take covering state institutions, schools, and local government authorities will be issued for short-term dengue suppression, according to decisions made here.
Special dengue suppression programmes will also be implemented covering 600 Grama Niladhari divisions on the upcoming three days of June 24, 25, and 26.
The need to expedite short-term measures covering schools, factories, state institutions, and religious places was heavily emphasised during the discussion, as these locations are currently identified as high dengue mosquito breeding grounds, the Presidential Media Division notes.
A decision was also reached to establish a special monitoring unit led by the tri-forces and to tighten legal measures to further strengthen dengue suppression activities.
Chief of Staff to the President Prabhash Chandrakeerthi, Senior Additional Secretary to the President and Ministry of Energy Secretary Russell Aponsu, and Additional Secretary to the President and Head of the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat S.P.C. Sugeeshwara participated in the discussion.
A group of officials representing the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education, the Ministry of Health and Media, the Ministry of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, the National Dengue Control Unit, the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, the Regional Directorate of Health Services, the Colombo Municipal Council, the Department of Government Information, and the tri-forces also attended the occasion.
