Trains will resume operations to Kandy within this year, according to Deputy Minister of Transport Prasanna Gunasena.
Making a statement in Parliament today (23), the Deputy Minister noted that 92 out of 97 sections of the Rambukkana-Kandy railway line destroyed by Cyclone Ditwah have already been reconstructed.
As the remaining five sections cannot be repaired by the Department of Railways alone, it will take some time to reconstruct those portions, the Deputy Minister added.
The Deputy Minister further stated that transporting materials has become a major challenge during the reconstruction of the railway lines.
