Gothatuwa Public Health Inspectors state that Rs. 1,410,000 worth fines were imposed this week on 57 individuals and 27 institutions after finding mosquito breeding grounds within their premises.
Public Health Inspectors said that these fines were imposed after these individuals and institutes, who did not take action to destroy mosquito breeding grounds, were arrested during raids conducted within the Gothatuwa jurisdiction this week — from June 17 to today (24) — and were produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court.
These fines were imposed by Colombo Additional Magistrate H. D. Darshima Premaratne.
The Public Health Inspectors informed that raids will continue to find dengue mosquito breeding sites.
They stated that these raids are being conducted under the instructions of the Gothatuwa Medical Officer of Health and Public Administration Medical Officers.
