A Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Urban Councillor of the Talawakelle-Lindula Urban Council, Orukada Liyanage Asanka Sampath Peiris, has been removed from his post with effect from June 17.
The removal was announced via an extraordinary gazette notification issued on June 17.
The councillor had initially been elected to the local government body through the bonus seat allocation.
Following his election, a disciplinary inquiry was launched against him after he allegedly acted in violation of party instructions during the vote to elect the chairman and vice-chairman of the urban council.
The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna subsequently stripped him of his party membership after he was found guilty in the disciplinary inquiry.
The removal from his council seat was finalised after the National Elections Commission was officially notified of the cancellation of his party membership.
