The former Director General of the Southern Provincial Development Authority, Rukshan Mallawa Arachchi, was released on bail today (26) by Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga Bodaragama.
He was previously held in remand custody regarding allegations of misappropriating government funds by distributing chairs to Southern Provincial Council members outside of the official procurement process ahead of a provincial council election.
The suspect appeared before the court during the hearing.
The Magistrate ordered his release on two personal bail bonds of 5 million rupees each and imposed a travel ban.
Other suspects involved in this case, including former Chief Minister Shan Wijayalal de Silva, were previously released on bail.
